The head of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while diversifying the chain into poultry items has been removed after conflicts with its directors.
Andrew Rennie is exiting after only 24 months in leadership, and will be succeeded on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's looks for a long-term chief.
The outgoing executive, who was with Domino's for over 20 years, had aimed to shift Britain's biggest pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, stating in a recent interview there was not “significant expansion” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed chicken was the fastest-growing food category in the globe.
Sources suggest that there was disagreement between Rennie and the directors over his focus and business vision, although Domino's release said he was stepping down “through mutual consent”.
In September, Domino's unveiled its chicken-focused product line – which Rennie called a “bold new chapter” for the company – and is piloting it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.
While the firm is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as intended, it considers fried chicken as an addition to its primary pizza operations.
Ian Bull, the company chairman, commented: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to drive further growth and profitability in our primary operations. We are concentrating on identifying the right chief executive to lead the careful implementation of that development approach.”
Earlier this month, Domino's, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said orders declined by 1.5% in the Q3. In August, it cautioned that the quick-service industry had “grown more challenging” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the lead-up to the government announcement and rising wage costs for disappointing revenue and a 15% drop in interim earnings.
Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut announced the shutting of 68 restaurants a last month, after the firm behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.
Adapting to consumer trends towards balanced diets, the company has rolled out lower-calorie options, such as its light base range of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has over 2,100, while a small has 909 calories.
Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since the recent past, and had a background at the gaming group a well-known operator. It is understood that she is not seeking to assume the CEO position on a full-time basis.
She said: “The company has a several current development and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to executing at a rapid rate.”
She said these comprised ongoing development on the organization's logistics network and menu innovation, and its customer retention initiative.
Domino's is also in need of a permanent chief financial officer until 16 March, when Andy Andrea comes aboard from the drinks company C&C Group. In the meantime, Snow serves as acting financial officer.
