Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the search of appointing a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
