Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial Control Tower IT Issue

A technical fault at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the airport.

Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a major ATC system failure halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were stopped due to an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others subject to postponements.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are managed.
